When Can I Start Training
Immediately! No matter your experience or age you can still learn to fly, although the requirements to solo are 16 Years of age, and 17 Years of age to receive a Private Pilots Certificate. Additionally a 3rd class medical evaluation is required to solo, But at San Diego Flyers we can provide guidance to help you through that process!
What will be the schedule for training?
Flight training can be tailored to your schedule, there are no strict timelines. Many students work part time while training while others pursue training full-time, San Diego Flyers can help you find the best schedule that works for you.
What aircraft will I train in?
Most training through Private, Instrument, and commercial will take place in a Cessna 172 or Piper Archer. These small trainers are great aircraft to learn to fly while still keeping your costs low!
How much does training cost?
The minimum time as required by the FAA under Part 61 to receive a private pilot certificate is 40 hours of flight time with at least 10 hours being solo time. With the minimum time of instruction doing flight (30 * $65) plus plane rental (40 * $150) and DPE examiner fee ($800 - $1200) this put the basics at $9,150. There are also additional costs for materials, a headset, and an iPad, adding ~$1,000. These are the minimums, the national average to receive a private pilot certificate is 75 hours which brings the total cost to $16,475.
